“Stop the Toiling … it’s spoiling your life!” by Reverend Lola Wright

Rev. Lola Wright, Bodhi’s Executive Director, continued our January focus on the spiritual practice of Visioning with her message “Stop the Toiling … it’s spoiling your life!” Below is an outline of her message, featuring notes, quotes and takeaways.

Opening

  • Michael Bernard Beckwith at TEDxMaui 2013: Let Your Dream Awaken You (5:17 – 6:15).
  • I first heard that voice in January, 2001. 21 years old, in a dark hotel conference room, tears streaming down my face. Something was stirring in me. As Dr. King said, “an inner urge called me.”

“Pain pushes until vision pulls.” — Rev. Michael Bernard Beckwith

Objectives

  • There is an Indwelling Presence—can you hear it?
  • Pain will push you. Vision will pull you. Choose.
  • You are here for a unique purpose.
  • Leave a legacy: what will your contribution be?

God is life, love, intelligence, substance, omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence. I am a manifestation of God, and every moment Its life, love and intelligence flow into and through me. I am one with God and am governed by Its law. I am Spirit, perfect, holy, harmonious. Nothing can hurt me or make me sick or afraid, for Spirit is God, and God cannot be hurt or sick or afraid. I manifest my real Self through this body now. God works in me and It cannot fail.

Takeaways

  • Who am I and what is my purpose? Your real happiness does not lie only in external accomplishments. Your real happiness lies in the activation of your highest potential.
  • Rose Mulroney reminder: call/vision.
  • DiSC Profile: I QUALIFY!!!

“God (Life) does not call the qualified. God (Life) qualifies the called.” — Rev. Michael Bernard Beckwith

  • Your vision is ever unfolding and expanding. I live a life of luxury. To Blake Levinson: “There is a pain in my tuches … literally. What is it telling me?” HEMORRHOIDS: Fear of deadlines.
  • Affirmation from Louise Hay: “I release all that is unlike love. There is time and space for everything I want to do.”
  • What is it that worries you? Where don’t you believe in the causative life force energy that moves at the center of your being? The how is none of your business.

“And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin.” — Matthew 6.27-28 NRSV

  • Why are you here? What is your dream?! We’re sitting in Johnnie’s dream! Why are you here? YOU GET TO SAY!

Summary

  • Our practices are the skeletal system of our spiritual life. Our spiritual life is that which undergirds all that we are, all that we do and all that we have.
  • Use the practice of visioning to hear more clearly the presence that resides at the center of your being.

Closing

  • I now have a wallet card. It is dated 12/26/14. It declares that I am a Minister of Religious Science. It took 13 years to lay down my resistance to who I truly am. This wallet card is not what defines me. It is, however, an acknowledgement of my sacred yes, my sacred yes to Life as Me.
