Rev. Lola grew up in a highly affluent suburb of Chicago and shares very candidly in “How Hip-Hop Saved My Life” that she found it very challenging to be herself in a picture perfect environment of cocktail parties and country clubs. She stumbled across Midnight Marauders by A Tribe Called Quest that completely shifted her mind. She started going to parties all over Chicago where she felt free in the Chicago hip-hop community.
